Ukraine at the center of talks in Davos
Three months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the war and the risks it poses to global economic recovery will be the focus of a gathering of the planet’s elites, set to meet in Davos starting Monday.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) returns to the Swiss ski resort after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021 she had to hold her traditional annual conference online. And the Omicron variant again forced it to be postponed from January to May this year.
“Our first thoughts are on the war in Ukraine,” assured the founder of the WEF, Klaus Schwab, and presented the program of this meeting, which took place under “political, economic and social circumstances (…) unprecedented”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be the first head of state to intervene. He should use this new platform to urge the world for more financial and military aid, and perhaps renew Kiev’s bid for EU membership.
His 11:15 a.m. speech in Paris will be delivered via videoconference. But many Ukrainian politicians have planned to make the trip in person, including Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
