GUANGZHOU, May 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Pakistan’s incoming Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Guangzhou on Sunday.
Bilawal paid an official visit to China May 21-22, his first bilateral overseas visit since taking office last month.
“China appreciates the new government of Pakistan’s firm commitment to developing the all-weather strategic cooperation partnership between the two countries,” Wang said.
China will, as always, prioritize Pakistan in its relations with neighboring countries and make Sino-Pakistani ties a factor of stability in the region, Wang said.
Both sides reiterated their strong support for each other’s core interests and main concerns.
Wang said China will firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, upholding unity and stability, and pursuing a development path that conforms to its national conditions.
Bilawal said Pakistan rejoices in China’s great achievements and believes that no force can stop China’s future development.
Pakistan is firmly pursuing the one-China policy, he said.
Both sides called terrorism the common enemy of humanity and strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Karachi University’s Confucius Institute.
Pakistan reiterated that efforts are being made to speed up the investigation, hunt down the culprits and bring them to justice. Pakistan updated the Chinese side on their efforts to ensure the safety of all Chinese citizens, projects and institutions in the country, according to a joint statement released after the talks.
China appreciates Pakistan’s commitment to the security of Chinese citizens and will further strengthen anti-terrorism and security cooperation with Pakistan, he added.
Both sides agreed to increase cooperation to implement China’s proposed Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative, and pledged to work with other countries to focus on the development agenda, address security challenges and the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development implement .
Bilawal said Pakistan fully understands and fully supports China’s anti-epidemic measures, and the Chinese government is truly practicing the concept of putting people’s lives first.
Facts have shown that China’s dynamic zero-COVID approach is effective and inspirational for Pakistan, adding that Pakistan is firmly opposed to politicizing issues related to the pandemic, he added. End
