SNL: Pete Davidson jokes about getting engaged to Ariana Grande and Kanye West in his latest episode

Pete Davidson joked about Kanye West and his engagement to Ariana Grande on his last episode of Saturday Night Live.

Davidson joined SNL in 2014 at the age of 20, making him one of the youngest main cast members in the show’s five-decade history.

Before the season finale aired on Saturday (May 21), Davidson shared an emotional post on Instagram, explaining that tonight’s episode would be his last.

Davidson appeared on the show’s weekend update segment alongside Colin Jost and joked about his time on the show and his “strange” year in public.

In his opening remarks, the 28-year-old referred to his relationship with Kim Kardashian and his high-profile falling out with her ex-husband Kanye West.

“Hello Colin and [Michael] Che and millions of people just watch if I mention Kanye,” Davidson said.

“I never thought this would be my life,” he said. “Look at me when I started here. I was just a skinny kid back then and no one knew what race I was. Now everyone knows I’m white because I’ve become incredibly successful even though I barely showed up for work.”

When asked by Jost if he’s “officially leaving,” Davidson quipped, “Yeah man Lorne [Michaels] accidentally gave me a sock, so I’m free.”

Later in the segment, Davidson said he would miss showrunner Michaels, adding that the producer “always gives the best advice.”

“I will never forget that. I called him when I got engaged, I said, ‘Lorne, I just got engaged to Ariana Grande after dating for two weeks,’ and he said, ‘Oh wait for my life!'”

Davidson then recalled his first audition for the show when Michaels “looked straight into my eyes” and told him, “‘I don’t think you’re right for this show, so let’s screw this up together.'”

Davidson is leaving SNL along with cast members Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney.
