Colin Cantwell, Designer of ‘Star Wars’ Spaceships, Dies at 90

The information was confirmed to the “Hollywood Reporter” this Sunday (22nd) by Sierra Dall, the American’s companion for 24 years.

The causes of death were not disclosed, but the designer had posted on his Instagram account that he had been treating Alzheimer’s for several months.

In addition to the George Lucas franchise, the artist also worked on the special effects teams on other classics in the genre, such as 1968’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and War Games. 1983

Before working on Hollywood films, Cantwell attended the University of California at Los Angeles, where he studied animation. He also attended the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

In the 1960s he worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NASA on flight education programs. He has even written two science fiction novels: CoreFires 1 and CoreFires 2.
