With some news in the repertoire, Iron Maiden returned to the stage yesterday (22) with a show in Zagreb, Croatia. The sextet has not performed live since the end of the South American tour in 2019.
Comparing yesterday’s show to what was seen at Rock in Rio in 2019, the changes are visible, if not very radical. For starters, the stage is different, now with the feudal Japaninspired theme seen in the art of the new album Senjutsu. Speaking of the record, three of his songs were heard for the first time yesterday: “Senjutsu”https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/, “Stratego” and “The Writing On The Wall”. some songs from the old repertoire were “sacrificed” like “Where Eagles Dare”https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/, “The Evil That Men Do” and, even one of the biggest hits by the band: “2 Minutes To Midnight”.
“Blood Brothers,” which they hadn’t played since 2017, also returned to the setlist, while “For The Greater Good Of God” and “The Wicker Man” left the show.
The other 11 songs shown were already in the repertoire, albeit often at different moments of the show. “Aces High”, which they always liked to play at first, was now used to close the concert, which was seen for the first time.
The Big Hits, “Run To The Hills” https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/, “The Trooper” https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles /,”The Number Of The Beast”https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/,”Fear Of The Dark” and “Iron Maiden” are retained, as is “Flight Of Icarus” ” https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/, “Revelations” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name”. “Sign Of The Cross” and “The Clansman” completed the setlist.
Watch the opening of the show, coming soon to Brazil. Maiden will close the opening night of the next Rock in Rio on September 2nd. Before that they are in Curitiba (August 27th with Pedreira Paulo Leminski) and three days later in Ribeirão Preto in the Eurobike Arena. The show in São Paulo will take place after the performance at the Rio Festival on September 4th, a Sunday, in Morumbi.

Paul Dianno
Coincidentally, there was also Paul Di’anno in Zagreb, the singer who recorded the band’s first two albums: Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981). In a wheelchair, he performed in a much more humble place than that of the band that launched him into the world of heavy metal.
The singer was invited to check out his former partners’ show and was reunited with bassist Steve Harris, the group’s leader who kicked him out of the group just over 40 years ago so Bruce Dickinson could take his place.
Here is an excerpt from the conversation between the two:
