This is 50-year-old Brent Reno, a photographer and filmmaker, according to an American newspaper in a press release. According to this statement, he worked for The New York Times in the past, but did not work for it in Ukraine.
The renaudbrothers biography, which hosts his work, as well as the work of his brother Craig, states that they live in New York and Little Rock, Arkansas. “The Renault brothers have spent the last decade telling human stories around the world. Their films and television projects have covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the earthquake in Haiti” or even “cartel violence in Mexico”, detailed.
Uncertainty about the origin of the shot
The Ukrainian authorities were quick to blame their Russian enemies for opening fire on the journalists, but it was difficult to immediately determine the origin of the shots.
AFP journalists who were in the area on Sunday heard artillery and small arms fire there.

He became the first foreign journalist to die since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Another American journalist, apparently slightly injured, testified in a video posted on social media. He explains that Brent Renault was shot in the neck while they were on their way to film residents fleeing their town.
The death of a journalist caused a lot of emotions and anger. “We ask you to fully disclose the circumstances of the death of documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud and the injuries inflicted on the journalist who was with him in the suburbs of Kyiv,” asks Secretary General of Reporters Without Borders Christophe Deloir.
