Since the network’s 67 other branches are not represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), only workers at the 22 branches represented by CUPE are affected by the strike.
“The 22 striking branches will remain open to customers, with a reduced schedule, and service will be provided by the managers of those branches,” the state-owned company said in a press release.
The strike was called in response to the suspension of the union’s leader, the vice-president of 75 employees, for wearing clothing that violated rules and obligations related to health and safety at work, the union assured on Tuesday.
In February 2022, workers voted 91% to implement pressure tactics, demanding better pay and working conditions.
For example, wearing sandals or shorts is prohibited by the Company’s dress code.
“SQDC respects the right of employees to engage in pressure tactics. For example, she tolerated the wearing of colored clothing and did not impose any disciplinary sanctions,” the SQDC put into perspective.
The company clarified that employees can return to their positions if they wear closed trousers and shoes, including all colors, “even if they do not respect the dress code, at any time their union will determine that the strike is over.” over”.
