There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Australian Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, who is hoping to rekindle the buzz he sparked when he brought the can-can to Cannes with Moulin Rouge! 20 years ago.
The film chronicles the life and career of Elvis from his early days as a child in Mississippi to his rise as a rock ‘n’ roll icon and movie star, as well as his complex relationship with his manager.
Luhrmann, along with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce and Jeremy Donner, served as director and co-writer on the film, based on a story he conceived with Donner.
Elvis – who has sold over 1 billion records – received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018 and has been inducted into several Music Halls of Fame.

Elvis died in 1977 at the age of 42 from an abnormal heart rhythm caused by a toxic reaction to codeine.
Austin recently commented that he lost touch with his own personality while playing the character of the same name.
He told GQ magazine: “You can lose touch with who you really are and I definitely had that when I was done with Elvis – not knowing who I was.”
In addition to the mental impact of playing Elvis, Austin also revealed that he was bedridden for a week after feeling unwell the day after filming wrapped in March 2021.

Austin said he was diagnosed with a virus that simulates appendicitis and said it was like his body shut down right after filming.
He said: “I woke up at four in the morning in excruciating pain and was taken to the hospital.”
The actor also revealed that he “got goosebumps” when he found out Elvis had lost his mother at the same age as him.
He said: “His mother died when he was 23 and my mother died when I was 23. When I found out about that, it was one of those things that gave me the chills and I was like, ‘okay, I can connect to that.’

Coming to the character, Austin reflected on the animals Elvis reminded him of, saying, “He has feline things, kind of like a lion looks at the prairie.
“There’s that quality of an alligator when it comes up underwater.”
Austin compared Priscilla Presley – Elvis’ first wife, whose marriage lasted from 1967 to 1973 and who produced their daughter Lisa Marie Presley, now 54 – to “an angel” when he met her in preparation for the role in Graceland.
When he first saw the 77-year-old actress, he said: “She looked like an angel. I walked down the hall with Baz afterwards with tears in my eyes.’
Highly-anticipated: On Monday, Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled the second trailer for Elvis – which hits theaters on June 24th
