A special forces war dog abandoned by Russian soldiers is currently saving Ukrainian lives. According to the British abloid Daily Star, Max was found wearing a Russian military dog camouflage collar.

3yearold Belgian shepherd Malinois was found wearing a Russian military dog camouflage collar. The animal was starving and about to fail in an area devastated by attacks by Vladimir Putin’s troops.

After receiving the necessary care, the dog was adopted by the Ukrainian army, who taught him to understand the language spoken by soldiers. Max’s new task is to track down traps and mines left behind by the Russians.

Max was part of Kremlin troops who had captured a village in the Mykolayiv region near the Black Sea. Abandoned when the forces retreated, he survived by subsisting on spoiled food.

A British soldier was surprised by the dog’s abandonment. “They are tremendously loyal, but Max is obviously convinced that the Ukrainians are now their new owners,” the soldier told the newspaper.
