FRISCO, Texas – A big member of the 2018 draft class is heading for the door.
As many expected, Cedric Wilson has found an impressive market for himself in 2022 on free agency terms as the four-year veteran has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $22 million contract with the Miami Dolphins.
This is the result of Wilson’s damn impressive career, originally selected back in the sixth round, 208th overall, in the 2018 NFL Draft. With the Cowboys choosing to sign Michael Gallup to a five-year deal, you could bet that their second wide receiver selected in that 2018 class would move on.
Wilson saw his role skyrocket each season during his four years in Dallas. His career got off to a rocky start in 2018 when a shoulder injury sustained during training camp put him on reserve for the entire rookie season. From there, he saw rare action as a reserve and special player in 2019.
Things are looking up in 2020. Wilson got a chance to add playing time in a Week 3 loss to the Cowboys at Seattle and responded with five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Due to the fact that he worked in addition to his abilities as a returner and marksman, the Cowboys clearly understood that they had found a helper for themselves.
Injuries opened the door to Wilson’s payroll last season. Originally named as the Cowboys’ fourth wide receiver for the season, Michael Gallup had a calf injury in his first week and eliminated him for the starting lineup. He took the opportunity and ran, catching 45 passes for 603 yards and six touchdowns.
Wilson’s versatility has also made him a fan favorite. In addition to his ability on special teams, Wilson drew on his experience as a high school quarterback. In two seasons, he had five tries and completed all five passes for 111 yards, marked by a memorable touchdown pass to Duck Prescott.
