Eagles won’t place RFA tender for Alex Singleton, report says

According to a message from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Although some believe that this development came as a surprise, in fact it should not be so.

Singleton was undoubtedly a good find for the Eagles after signing with the Canadian Football League. In fact, he led the team in linebacker snap percentage last year (63.9%), ahead of TJ Edwards (60.8%). The Singleton is a tackling machine and is great for special teams. He also comes across as a pleasant, rooted player who is loved in the locker room.

But Singleton has athletic limits, as evidenced by a 102.8 passer rating when targeting 2020 and a 111.4 passer rating when targeting 2021. He’s also not exactly a young up-and-coming player, considering he’s entering his 29-year-old season.

A Singleton tender at its lowest would have been worth $2.6 million in 2022. While that may not sound like a lot, consider that this year it will be the Eagles’ 16th largest cap cap. And as we all know, Philadelphia is unlikely to be eager to spend resources on the linebacker position.

Just because the Eagles didn’t offer Singleton doesn’t mean he’s 100% out. It is possible that he and the team will be able to come to an agreement that will return him to Philadelphia. But now that he’s an unrestricted free agent, it’s entirely possible that Singleton will move to another team. We just have to wait and see.

Whether Singleton returns or not, the Eagles should be looking for linebacker promotions in free agency and in the 2022 NFL Draft.
