Two homeless people were killed and three wounded by his bullets. On Monday, March 14, a hunt began in New York and Washington for a man accused of a series of nightly attacks on sleeping homeless people. “A ruthless killer is on the loose, but we will arrest him and put him in jail,” mayors of both cities, Eric Adams and Muriel Bowser, said in a joint statement.

In unison, the two elected Democrats urged the homeless in two American cities to take shelter while waiting for the killer to be safe. Showing numerous images of the suspect, a bearded, thin and rather young man with a shaved head, they promised up to $70,000 (about €64,000) in reward for any information that would identify him.

The author of these crimes, according to the authorities, is responsible for at least five attacks carried out “in cold blood” with “the same method” on men sleeping on the street. To make sure there were no other casualties, investigators contacted their counterparts across the country, according to the New York police chief. The homeless are “already fighting for survival on a daily basis,” she said, promising to “quickly” arrest her executioner.
