The shark stays in the water.

The Chiefs first acquired 28-year-old Clark during the 2019 offseason. In his three seasons as head coach (43 games), Clark had 88 tackles (63 solo), including 24 tackles for loss, 46 quarterback hits and 18.5 sacks. He also made five fumbles. Clarke’s outstanding success as Chief came in the 2019 postseason when he registered 5.0 sacks en route to a Super Bowl title.
Clark’s caps for 2022 and 2023 have been set at $26.3 million and $27.8 million, respectively, and the new deal significantly reduces those losses. The move means Clark has taken some pay cuts to stay in Kansas City. The restructured deal should save the Chiefs more than $11 million over their 2022 cap.
As we mentioned on these pages earlier on Monday, general manager Brett Wyche said that the team plans to restore the line of defense and defense in generalso there was no way to get Clark back to his original baseball cap number.
Instead, he remains in Kansas City, where he will work with new defensive line coach Joe Cullen. Perhaps his own fresh start with Cullen – so to speak – along with incentives contributes to the wise preservation of the defensive end.
