Aaron Rodgers’ contract with the Packers is huge

The contract between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers has been signed. according to Jan Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Pelissero and Rapoport have tweeted some of the details of the contract, including the annual salary, and the numbers are truly staggering.

That’s over $150 million for Rodgers over three years, of which nearly $75 million is guaranteed at signing. On an annual average, this makes him the highest paid player in NFL history. He also has two “dummy years” on his contract, which Rapoport says will have to be redone if he continues to play beyond 2024.

However, there are some conflicting details. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Tuesday morning’s Get Up that the deal has been done “year after year,” meaning the Packers will have to go back to it next year.

Davante Adams problem

One of the benefits of Rodgers’ deal with the Packers is that it frees up ceiling space. The deal increased the Packers cap from $46 million to $28 million, according to ESPN.

It was this cap spot that allowed the Packers to keep wide receiver Davante Adams under an approximately $18.4 million franchise in 2022. But obviously that’s not what Adams really wants. According to Rapoport, Adams told the Packers he would not play under the franchise banner and wanted a long-term contract.

Green Bay needs to clear a lot of space to make room for the Adams deal, but she has time to sort it out. The Packers have until mid-July to sign Adams. However, Adams is probably not thrilled with them right now, considering they labeled him franchise and denied him the opportunity to test the market. When you tell a team that you’re willing to miss out on a game if they don’t pay you what you could bring to other teams, you’re probably not thrilled about it.

Adams and Rogers have an amazing chemistry, and Rogers has spoken out in favor of Adams many times. This could definitely play into Adams’ hands with the Packers, although at this point no one can predict how it will work out.
