Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday after spending a day with AmeriCorps at an environmental public works project in northeast Washington, D.C.

“Earlier today, a second gentleman tested positive for COVID-19,” the White House said in a statement Tuesday night.

Vice President Kamala Harris tested negative for COVID-19 on Tuesday but will continue testing now that her husband has contracted the virus, the statement said.

“As a precaution, the Vice President will not participate in today’s event,” he added, referring to the celebration of Equal Pay Day as part of Women’s History Month at the White House.

The event did go ahead as planned on Tuesday night, but President Joe Biden made a serious gaffe by accidentally claiming he was the one who contracted COVID.

“The first lady’s husband had contact with COVID,” Biden said, before someone to the side pointed out that the statement would mean he had the virus.

“Right,” he said, laughing.

‘She is alright. The second lady is the first gentleman, how about that? he said with a smile, continuing his gaffe about the attitudes of those who had the coronavirus.

Biden told the crowd to pass on “our love” to Harris, the first woman to serve as vice president, as she could no longer attend an event honoring women in the workforce and promoting equal pay for men and women as part of Women’s History Month.

Emhoff’s positive test came after former President Barack Obama announced on Sunday that he had contracted the coronavirus, but stated that wife Michelle was healthy.
