Rod Stewart won hearts this week with his viral road repair video, but at least one party was less than impressed: Essex Highways.
On Saturday, the 77-year-old rocker shared a video of himself taking a shovel and helping to fill potholes in a damaged road. Stewart, who was wearing a Scottish football club Celtic jersey, said he was spurred to action because he couldn’t drive his Ferrari on the pothole-riddled road.
“It’s a road near where I live in Harlow, and it’s been like this for ages,” Stuart complained. “And the other day an ambulance arrived with a burst tire. My Ferrari will not pass here at all. So the guys and I thought that we would come and do everything ourselves. potholes while millions and millions of pounds were spent on the M11,” referring to another nearby motorway.
He added, “I’m fixing the street I live on because no one can do it!”

While many praised Stewart’s initiative, a spokesman for Essex Highways advised people not to follow the singer’s lead as they could put themselves at risk.
“While we would like to prioritize repairing every road, the scale of our network of over 5,000 miles means this is not possible and we must focus on fixing the defects that can most harm the safety of our road users,” the post reads. . A spokesperson told HuffPost.
“While we appreciate Sir Rod’s commitment and community spirit, we do not recommend anyone doing road work on their own,” the spokesperson continued. “Without proper traffic management and other specific safety measures, residents put themselves and others at risk.”
Stewart’s efforts, however, were a huge success and resulted in many puns including lyrics from his biggest hits. Lest the singer feel discouraged by the Essex Highways swearing, perhaps one of his famous characters can lend a helping hand. As TV journalist James Hoggart tweeted, “If Rod can’t fix it, Maggie can.”
