The Queen Elizabeth II will not attend the platinum jubilee mass to commemorate her 70th year in power, Buckingham Palace said on Thursday, saying she had “a certain unease”. “The Queen really enjoyed the Jubilee Parade today (Thursday) and the Air Parade, but felt a certain uneasiness,” the note said. “Given the travel and activities required to attend tomorrow’s National Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty has concluded with great reluctance that she will not attend,” they added. The event, scheduled to take place this Friday at the Cathedral of São Paulo, in London.
Celebrations to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign began this Thursday 2nd and will continue through Sunday. On the first day, hundreds of Britons took to the streets to watch the traditional Jubilee Parade, with around 500 soldiers, 400 musicians, 250 horses from 70 Air Force aircraft including the Red Arrows aerobatic patrol, above the Palace and a second appearance by the Queen, together with key members of the royal family including William and Catherine’s three young children to greet the crowd. At 96, the monarch, who becomes the sixth woman to take over the British crown, surpassed the record set by Queen Victoria, her greatgreatgrandmother, and became the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee.
