Randy Gregory isn’t the only player to change his mind during the negotiation window.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that running back J.D. McKissick, who agreed to sign a two-year, $7 million contract with the Bills, will instead remain with Washington under a contract with the same compensation.
McKissick has been a prolific Washington player for the past two seasons. In 2020, he had 954 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns while recording 80 catches for 589 yards.
Then in 2021, McKissick caught 43 passes for 397 yards with a pair of touchdowns and also ran 48 times for 212 yards with two points.
Schefter reveals that the Commanders did not initially offer McKissick a contract until he agreed to join the Bills. But when McKissick learned that Washington was ready to accept the Buffalo offer, he didn’t want to leave his current franchise.
McKissick will remain in Washington, which means the Bills will now have to find another double threat to their backfield as Buffalo tries to keep improving his offense with Josh Allen behind center.
The Bills finished the 2021 season 3rd in scoring and 5th in total yards.
