Parents blast New York Mayor Eric Adams for his ‘absurd’ face mask requirement for toddlers

Parents are blasting New York City Mayor Eric Adams for refusing to lift his “absurd” mask mandate for two- to four-year-olds in daycares and public schools

  • More than 200 parents of NYC students urged Mayor Eric Adams to meet with them during the residency on mask mandates for children under 5
  • The mayor was ready to scrap the mandate on April 4 before extending and maintaining the order, although a judge lifted the restriction
  • Adams, 61, claimed he’s ready to remove the mandate if “it’s safe,” despite studies showing young children aren’t at serious risk from COVID-19

Eric Adams is sticking to his controversial mask bid for children under five as summer fast approaches and the school year approaches.

Speaking to reporters this week, the mayor of New York City gave no timeline for when the city will repeal the controversial policy that affects students ages two to four in the city’s public schools.

Adams agreed to lift the mask rule on April 4 when he lifted mandates for the rest of the students, but canceled after cases started to pick up again across the city.

Since then, infection rates and cases have plummeted in the city – and parents are slamming the former NYPD police captain for refusing to nullify guidance.

“I want to remove the masks and see our babies’ faces as soon as possible,” Adams, 61, said when asked by the New York Post on Wednesday.

“We are prepared, do not panic as we enter the next phase of the pandemic,” the mayor told the newspaper.

“My team of health professionals and I continue to evaluate the data on a day-to-day basis and we will continue to communicate with New Yorkers for additional updates.”

The age group is not eligible to receive a COVID vaccine and the World Health Organization has never recommended masking young children.

Adams said the Tikes – who are mostly preschoolers – are being forced to continue with the covers because they are too young to be vaccinated.
