Anna Delvey Claims Fans Offered to Adopt or Marry Her

Fraudster socialite heiress Anna “Delvy” Sorokina revealed that people want to adopt her or marry her – and that other inmates told her she was “not such a good criminal” – when she revealed how she scammed countless residents New York.

In a new episode of the “Call Her Dad” podcast released Wednesday, Sorokina – a recording from the Orange County Correctional Facility in Goshen, New York, where she is being held by ICE – laughed as she insisted she never “never caused criminal harm.” .

“Absolutely not,” Sorokina told host Alexandra Cooper when asked if she considered herself a fraud. “You know, I never intended to criminally harm anyone.

“I literally can’t think of a single example where I would say: “Let me fuck this man and he will never see his money again,” she insisted.

Sorokina pretended to be a Russian heiress with a $67 million trust fund as she stayed at some of the city’s fanciest hotels and took out thousands of dollars in fraudulent loans after moving to the city in 2013.

There was nothing wrong with that, she said, because “60 million people in New York are on the verge of poverty … There are so many rich people there that you don’t impress anyone.”

She revealed how she would dress to visit the banks to create an “I don’t care” atmosphere. The 31-year-old said it’s easier to ask for cash if people think you already have a fortune.

The video interview was recorded on March 7 and shows Sorokina, who remains in ICE custody despite an attempt to deport her to Germany on Monday, wearing a yellow prison jumpsuit and her signature Celine glasses.

Even behind bars, Sorokin said she used her cellmate as an assistant to charge her iPad and sort through mail; while at Rikers, she paid for hand washing. She added, “I have people who want to adopt me. I don’t have, like, haters!”

Sorokina, who moved from Russia to Germany with her family as a teenager, described a childhood when she was obsessed with MTV, saying she was determined to move to New York after becoming a fan of Kelly Catrone, an up-and-coming fashion publicist who appeared on a reality show. “City”, “Kell on Earth” and “Hills”.

Sorokina said she wanted to become a fashion publicist or work for magazines.

“As a little girl, I always wanted to be in fashion, definitely,” she told Cooper. “I just hated being told what to do.

“I was just allergic to authority, to rules, especially when I thought they were unreasonable. I hated to explain myself.”

She saw money as a way out: “To have the freedom that comes with [money]. I just wanted to do what I wanted. Travel, visit places and do things. If you ask your parents for money, then you need their permission, but if you have your own, you just go and do what you want. Money has always represented freedom for me, and not just for the sake of money.”

In April 2019, Sorokina, whose story inspired the hit Netflix series Inventing Anna, was convicted of four counts of theft of services, three counts of grand larceny and one count of attempted grand larceny. She was sentenced to at least four years in prison but released in February 2021 for good behaviour.

A few weeks later, on March 25, 2021, she was taken into custody by ICE for an overstayed visa.

Sorokina said she couldn’t believe how the authorities were trying to take her down. “My goal was never to get away or not get caught. I hear people in prison say, “You’re not such a good criminal.” I never tried to be like that. I never hid from the police. I thought I’d just go back to New York, I thought I’d work it out with my lawyer. I didn’t know they would be so cruel about it.”

Sorokina declined to answer questions about whether she was deceiving people into believing she came from money.

Have you ever told people that you are a German heiress? Cooper asked, to which she replied: “What kind of sentence is this. It’s completely ridiculous.”

When asked what else she lied about, besides her name, Sorokina replied that she lied only to banks.

“I must have done [lie]. I can’t name a specific instance. But I’m pretty sure I’ve never told any senseless lies…unless it was some sort of bank,” she said, giggling.

She said that her derided accent is real, although she doesn’t like the accent that actress Julia Garner used in the movie Inventing Anna.

Sorokina added that she became popular in prison and became friends with the killers – and that she received “more marriage proposals than I ever did before starting my criminal career.”

As for her plans for when she will finally be released, Sorokina told the podcast host that she will be getting laser eye surgery, noting that her designer glasses are not just a fashion accessory and that she is “half-blind.”

She also knows that people are still interested in her story.

“I feel like my case is being thrown in my face every day. You know, for some people they commit a crime, go to jail, get out and that’s it … It will never be like this with me – it will always follow me in some way, ”Sorokin told Cooper.

“I’m so afraid of screwing up again and [have] everyone says, “She was a fraud the whole time and we knew it.”

Although she wants to stay in the US, Sorokina added that she doesn’t belong anywhere. “I guess I just always tried to be open-minded, or maybe it’s because I moved around so much. I don’t feel like I’m from nowhere, I feel like I don’t belong anywhere.

“But not in a bad way… Wouldn’t it be sad when you just spend your whole life in one place?”
