Goldbergs’ Wendy McLendon-Covey weighs in on Jeff Garlin’s departure

Goldbergs star Wendy McLendon-Covey speaks out on social media for the first time about last year’s departure of Jeff Garlin, who left the show abruptly after multiple allegations of misconduct and investigations by Human Resources.

After his departure, there was some criticism online about how the series was handling the filming of his unfinished scenes. The Goldbergs used a body double and superimposed Garlin’s face in some scenes in post-production for the current ninth season.

At the time of Garlin’s departure, it was believed that there was one more day of filming left over from the original order for season 9 after his schedule was reduced.

A tweet on Monday by journalist Noel Murray prompted a McLendon-Covey response.

“They should either cancel The Goldbergs or kill off Jeff Garlin’s character because the workarounds they used this season don’t work,” Murray wrote, along with a clip from the show that features Garlin’s superimposed face and pre-recorded dialogue. .

“Thank you for the great offer, Noel!” McLendon-Covey tweeted on Tuesday. “This season has us stumped because a) it’s hard to include someone who doesn’t want to be there and wants to leave the stage, and b) we weren’t going to rewrite the second half of the season. . We are doing everything possible”.

ABC did not comment.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8/7 am on ABC.
