The couple went on vacation to Florida last week to get away from a cold, snowy New England winter, but their vacation ended in tragedy.

“The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission extends its sincere condolences to Ms Partridge’s family and friends at this tragic time,” a spokesperson said.

Vigilant beach club lifeguards swam out, picked up Partridge and swam ashore, commission investigators said. She was taken to a local hospital, but could not be revived.

Witnesses said she was bleeding heavily as she was pulled ashore, and her family said she hit her head before entering the water.
