MLB Free Agency: Former rookies Chris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber find new homes

While Chicago Cubs fans may have been hoping for a reunion with members of the 2016 World Series Championship team, none of them seem to be in sight as several of the team’s key players have found new homes.

Third baseman Chris Bryant reportedly reached an agreement with the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, according to MLB Network’s John Heyman:

According to Heyman, the batter signed a 7-year, $182 million contract with the Rockies.

Bryant, the 2016 National League MVP, was traded by the Cubs to the San Francisco Giants before the 2021 trade deadline, and he will now trade to Coors Field.

In 144 games last season, Bryant hit 25 home runs and had 73 RBIs, batting .265 in 513 games between the Cubs and the Giants.

Kyle Schwarber also found a new team on Wednesday, reportedly signing with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Prior to the 2021 season, the Cubs did not put Schwarber up for bidding, and he hit 32 home runs for the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox.

The Cubs were reportedly interested in reuniting with the batter, but he would instead travel to Philadelphia to team up with Bryce Harper in the City of Brotherly Love.

On Tuesday night, former Cubs baseman Anthony Rizzo signed a two-year deal with the New York Yankees. Rizzo was traded to the Yankees for the 2021 season and batted .249 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs for the Bronx Bombers.
