These are just a few shots taken on the 21st day of the war in Ukraine that show violence, displacement and grief. Deadly Russian bombing continued across the country, even as political leaders on both sides showed optimism about efforts to negotiate a cessation of hostilities.
In the western Ukrainian town of Starychi, a crowd heard military salutes at the funeral of Roman Mak and Nikolai Mikutyukov, soldiers killed Sunday when Russian missiles hit a military training base.
