UKRAINE – Touching reunion. Hasan, an 11-year-old Ukrainian boy who arrived alone at the border with Slovakia on Sunday, March 6, found his mother with a plastic bag, passport and phone number written on his hand, police said. Facebook post for this Wednesday, March 16th.

“The grand finale of a great story: the war in Ukraine separated them, now the Hassan family has reunited,” the police reported on the social network. Under the post, the Slovak police shared a video of the reunion of Hassan, his mother, grandmother and their dog.

The little boy came alone from Zaporozhye to the border with Slovakia in early March. There he was able to find his brothers and sisters who had made the journey before him. His mother stayed in Ukraine because Hassan’s grandmother was sick and unable to travel. But faced with the growing threat of bombing, the two women decided to flee the city.

Hasan’s mom said the trip was “very difficult”. “We had to flee so that our family could be reunited again. We must start from scratch. We have lost everything we had, but we are in good health,” she said.

This is not the first time Hassan’s family has fled the war. A few years ago they had to leave Syria. The father did not survive the war, and family members moved to Ukraine, the country of origin of the boy’s mother.
