A missing eight-month-old boy has been found safe and sound after spending the night in an open field when he was abandoned by his mother.

The child did not appear to be hurt, but was taken to a local hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for preventive treatment.

According to the Baton Rouge police, his mother had health problems. There are no charges, but the investigation is ongoing.

The baby was found after hours of searching involving the fire department, parish search and rescue, East Baton Rouge coroner’s office, emergency medical services, Acadian ambulance and hospital staff.

Eventually, his mother helped in the search and was able to point out to the authorities the place where she left him.

Curt Monte of the Baton Rouge Fire Department told WAFB, “We were able to get the mother to the scene, the city police took the mother away, the mother showed them the plot on Plank Road near the church.”

The child was then found next to the Saintsville COGIC on Plank Road.

Mike Chatz of East Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services added: “The medics jumped on him and started treating him right away and… I think he’ll be fine…

“Time did not give us great hopes, but the child was difficult.”
