The Young Theatre, the Ukrainian theater troupe she has been with since 1980, announced the star’s death on Thursday.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the company expressed “irreparable grief” over the passing of Shvets.
“Honored Artist of Ukraine Oksana Shvets died during a rocket attack on a residential building in Kyiv,” the troupe wrote under a picture of a stage and screen veteran.
The dedication, translated from Ukrainian, continued: “Blessed memory of a talented actress! There is no forgiveness for the enemy who came to our land!”
The English-language edition of the Kyiv Post also reported on her death, stating on Twitter that she “was killed in Kyiv during the war.”
According to the website of the Young Theatre, Shvets studied theater at the Ivan Franko Theater and the Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts before embarking on a multi-year career in entertainment.
In addition to work in the theater, Shvets has such television series as the long-term family saga “House with Lilies”.
According to Variety, Shvets was awarded one of the most prestigious awards in Ukraine for her work in the theater – the Honored Artist of Ukraine. Shvets is the last known Ukrainian figure to die as a result of the conflict with Russia. According to a Facebook post from the Odessa International Film Festival, fellow actor Pasha Li was killed earlier this month while defending his country from Russian forces.
