Matthew Morrison and Ashley Byam join EastEnders filming after being introduced as a new family

Matthew Morrison and Ashley Byam were seen arriving on the set of EastEnders on Thursday for their first day of filming for the soap.

The actors are part of a new family set to come to Walford this summer when Mitch’s estranged brother, played by Roger Griffiths, shows up in Albert Square.

Matthew, who was set to play the character of Felix, wore an open pink teddy zip-up hoodie over a t-shirt of a slightly darker shade.

Almost always on the verge of causing trouble, Avery couldn’t be more different from his little brother, and his arrival will cause instant excitement.

Avery is joined by his children, Felix and Finlay, played by Matthew Morrison (Felix) and Ashley Byam (Finlay).

The youngest of the two brothers, the larger than life Felix, will throw himself into life on Albertplatz, but with his quick wit and open honesty he will certainly cause some drama.

Elder half-brother Finlay has a different biological father but was raised by Avery shortly after the birth.

Finlay has sailed through life with his sassy charm but faces a wake-up call as he begins his life in Walford.

Despite being complete opposites of each other, Felix and Finlay present a united front and always stand behind each other.

Although Mitch is very fond of his nephews, it’s fair to say that he has a complicated relationship with his brother after years of not speaking to him, and Avery’s unexpected arrival will cause Mitch some trouble.

When Mitch realizes there must be a reason Avery is suddenly coming back into his life, he is determined to get to the bottom of the matter and find out what secret Avery is hiding…

EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said: “The Baker family brings a fresh, wild, fun and exciting energy to the pitch.

“Felix and Finlay are two very different crackers and, yes, these brothers fight, take the mick and challenge each other, but none of it compares to the unwavering love and loyalty they have for one another.

“They may be charming young men full of sass, swagger and strength, but these brothers are bakers and, like their father Avery, have their own unique way of surviving.

“Omar, Matthew and Ashley bring star quality to the EastEnders and we’re delighted to see them bring Avery, Felix and Finlay to life. The Baker family is just the beginning of some new faces landing in Walford later this year – so watch this space…

On taking on the role of Avery, Omar said: “I’ve been watching EastEnders since I was at school, so it’s such a surreal experience to be a part of the show now.

“I’m having so much fun and it’s an honor to work with this incredible cast.”

Matthew Morrison, who will play Felix, added: “It’s an honor to be a part of such an iconic show that I grew up watching.

“It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, and I don’t think it ever will. I’m having a great time engaging with Felix and can’t wait for you all to meet him!’

Ashley Byam, who will play Finlay, said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Square. Like many people, I grew up listening to EastEnders; it was almost like an unspoken family tradition.

“My mom and I sat together and watched so many incredible and iconic storylines. So it’s an honor to now be a part of this classic British television drama and I’m really grateful. I can’t wait for everyone to meet Finlay and see what’s in store for him.’

The actors have started filming and will make their big screen debut this summer.
