Sharing throwbacks of herself, Daisy revealed that she had struggled with “horrible self-esteem” in the past and was sometimes “too scared to leave the house”.

She wrote: “As May is Mental Health Awareness Month – it took me to the very last day to write this it’s so hard to explain to anyone who has been fortunate enough not to suffer from mental health problems Suffer.

“From the outside, most people could never have known that I was struggling…struggling with constant negative thought patterns, terrible self-esteem, too scared to leave the house. It felt like the darkness would never end… I kept thinking I’ll be better tomorrow, but it was a total burnout. I had smiled at this for too long.

“I turned inward… it took a lot of support from loved ones, a lot of understanding when I couldn’t even understand myself… therapy, treatment and care. I know I’ve been very fortunate to have pushed through all of this and to be here today to write this.

“I’ve learned a lot about myself, the company I keep, the things in life that really make me smile. I no longer have to wear a mask – I don’t push myself into things that are to my detriment. I speak and stand in my power when something isn’t right with me. I know it’s okay to be uncomfortable. I don’t have to please everyone… I can say no. It is in order..’

I promise you, it gets better from here. Lean on the ones you love, talk about them, do whatever helps you climb the emotional scale.

“Get out in nature, listen to heart-opening music, cry hard – watch movies that make you laugh. Don’t be afraid to open up and be honest about how you feel. Sunny days are coming… and the dark days only make you appreciate the bright ones even more.

The star emotionally shared that clumps of her hair were falling out and she even lost the ability to speak during a secret meltdown following the death of her grandfather Eddie Davis.

Daisy said Strictly Come Dancing was the greatest experience of her career but that she struggled after news of her grandfather’s death reached her on the first day in the BBC studios.

Encouraged by her grandmother to keep the competition alive in his memory, Daisy made it to eight weeks with her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

The show ended in October 2016 before the nationwide tour began.

As a result, job offers started pouring in and Daisy tried to capitalize on her time in the spotlight by filling her days with up to eight gigs a day, but she quickly realized this was unsustainable.

Daisy eventually experienced an emotional breakdown that resulted in her refusing to leave her home for nearly seven months.

Her mother, fashion designer Pearl Lowe, eventually intervened and put her in touch with psychotherapist John McKeown.
