Linebacker Alex Singleton, who led the Eagles in tackles for the past two seasons, is leaving Philadelphia as a free agent.
Singleton, 28, is signing a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos, a NBC Sports Philadelphia league source confirmed. James Palmer of the NFL Network was the first to report it.
According to the NFL Network, Singleton’s new $1.1 million contract is fully guaranteed with an opportunity to earn another $750,000 in incentives.
Initially, Singleton was a restricted free agent, but the Eagles did not offer him. Even the lowest tender will bring a salary of 2.433 million dollars. The only RFA offered by the Eagles this year was OL Nate Herbig. The Eagles did not offer WR Greg Ward or RB Boston Scott, but signed them to one-year contracts with a 2022 return.
During his time with the Eagles, Singleton was a great player with an equally great history. The former CFL All-Star and Gray Cup champion had to work his way up from the practice team to earn a spot on the Eagles roster. Once he did, he became an outstanding special teams player, eventually special teams captain, and earned a larger defensive role.
He led the Eagles in tackles with 120 in 2020 and led them again in 2021 tackles with 137.

After his breakout season in 2020, Singleton started last season as a starter, but his on-fire hair style didn’t seem to fit Jonathan Gannon’s new scheme. Over time, Singleton’s role has diminished. But once Davion Taylor was injured, Singleton returned to the starting XI and continued to play better.
With Singleton gone, the Eagles will bring back TJ Edwards, Davion Taylor and Sean Bradley from the 2021 season. They also added free agent Haason Reddick, who is described as a linebacker but is actually a winger. The Eagles may still need some extra help at midfield.
Here’s a fresh look at Eagles free agents who agreed to offseason deals:
Hassan Ridgway: 49ers
Anthony Harris: Eagles
Boston Scott: Eagles
Alex Singleton: Broncos
Their remaining free agents for the 2021 season are Rodney McLeod, Derek Barnett, Stephen Nelson, Ryan Kerrigan, Janard Avery, Jordan Howard and Jason Krum.
