According to the Metropoles news agency, Mr Alves’ wife and mother-in-law left home to help a man who was living in difficult conditions.

They later broke up, but Eduardo was later unable to contact his wife, who did not return calls.

However, his wife, whose name has not been released, told officers that the relationship she had with the man at the time was in fact consensual.

She told the police that she enjoys helping vulnerable people through the church she attends.

And she allegedly later told a friend that she received a “message from God” to help a homeless man she was caught with.

The homeless man was taken to the hospital with bruises and two bruises under his eyes. He is reportedly recovering well from his injuries.

The Civil Police (Brazilian Investigative Police) of the Federal District continues to investigate the case.
