Ukraine, protest of empty baby carriages in Lviv: no more children killed

A silent flash mob was organized in the city to commemorate the 109 children who died during the Russian invasion. Di Maio: “We need a humanitarian ceasefire that allows families to be saved”

One hundred and nine empty prams spread across six rows, to say enough to kill children. In Lviv’s central market square, Ukrainians staged this silent protest to once again denounce the Russian army’s bombings of civilians. The prams were distributed in front of the media center that welcomes journalists from all over the world to the western town. And with them were also planted three signs telling the tragedy of the Ukrainian population: “There is Tanya, six years old, who died of dehydration. There are newborns in Mariupol hospital. There are children who cannot be evacuated,” reads one of them. So far, according to the Ukrainian Attorney General, 109 children have been killed by Russian bombs and more than 130 injured (ALL LIVE UPDATES – THE SPECIAL).

The Rubble of the Mariupol Theater, depicted on one of the illustrative signs affixed to the side, is a fatal title for the protest staged in Lviv. Where, in the middle of the morning, strategically located in front of the Ukrainian media center, a group of young women silently carried dozens and dozens of strollers of all models and colors. The strollers stayed there all day. A very long silent flash mob to remember what is happening in the east of the country and in the capital. In a few hours, the image of the 109 empty prams on the square will go around the world. Bounce on social media, on information sites. The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, also stops at the protest site. “The prams symbolize the lives of those angels who are now protecting the sky over Ukraine,” he commented.

The flash mob did not go unnoticed in Italy either. “This spiral of death must be broken, peace must return to Ukraine. We are exerting diplomatic pressure in all international headquarters to achieve a humanitarian ceasefire that will allow the rescue of children, women and entire families,” stressed Italian Foreign Minister Luigi on Facebook Di Maio. MEP Pina Picierno from Brussels relaunched a proposal by the Dems: “We must set up a European task force to protect underage refugees from Ukraine”.
