The film “Grease, in the days of Grease” starring John Travolta and Olivia NewtonJohn was a big box office hit in the late 1970s.
A Brazilian adaptation debuts on the scene this month. Robson stars as Danny Zuko and Sandy, Lima and Luli. “There’s no way not to know or at least know the songs,” says Luli, who sang on The Voice Brasil 2020 and reached the semifinals.

In the musical, she underwent another difficult test: she took those bubblegum songs from her memory from the English original “Grease” and put in the Portuguese version.
And to 100% include the story set in 1950’s Chicago, it has a complete package from head to toe.
“Back then there was no Instagram, no WhatsApp. People had no way of showing their image for all to see. How did they show themselves? On the street,” says Robson.
Of course, the voluminous pompadour helps to compose the character.
“It’s five fingers! My topknot touches the sky,” jokes one of the actors in the cast.
Makeup can not be missing in the wardrobe of actresses.
“Kitty eyeliner,” says one actress.
In addition to full skirts, the bra of that time has a different shape, pointed. “It’s uncomfortable,” says one actress.
One of the highlights of the musical is the scene where a detonating car appears brand new in less than four minutes. Everything happens so fast and with the actors dancing and singing that the audience misses one detail at the end: the secret is that the parts come loose.
Since everything in the music is clocked with millimeter precision, the team has to be right.
“If we miss something by half a second, there’s a mistake, another, another… And the whole act becomes a disaster,” comments one of the actors.
The premiere in Brazil will take place at the same time as the London production. Ricardo Marques, producer and director, provides information about the productions in both countries.
“We debuted there last month and now, this month, we debuted here in Brazil,” says Marques.
“It’s a story from 1959, but it’s still so relevant. These young people are looking for their identity, looking for their voice, looking for their mark in the world,” says Robson.
“It’s a love story,” summarizes Luli.
