China on criminal charges after violent gang attack

Beijing, June 13 (Prensa Latina) Several places in China are today working on special anti-crime campaigns to avoid a repeat of events such as the beating by a gang of four women at a restaurant in the northern city of Tangshan.

According to the Global Times newspaper, the offensive started in this city under the name of Electric Storm and also spread to provinces such as Shanxi, Ningxia Hui and Gansu.

In Tangshan, it will take half a month, it will involve an increase in patrols, the establishment of a rapid response system to security threats, and will try to eradicate fights, all kinds of public disorder, deliberate attacks and insults to women.

But it will also combat practices such as extortion, harassment, illegal gambling, drugs, cybercrime and cover-up by local authorities.

The other federal states will also focus on inspecting night markets, shopping centers and dining facilities such as barbecues.

All of this action comes after a video was released showing four women being beaten by several gang members at a barbecue in Tangshan early Friday morning.

The men brutally beat the women with kicks and even chairs as they dragged them across the floor in front of the restaurant.

So far, nine suspects have been arrested over this fact, which caused a great stir in the country, fueling calls for a strong hand against the criminal gangs that still exist and also for the need to increase protections for women.

In addition, more complaints about the gangs’ operations in Tangshan and the police’s bad behavior in the face of kidnapping, extortion, threats and beatings have surfaced in the past few hours.
