Sean “Diddy” Combs to be honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at upcoming 2022 BET Awards: “He exemplified Black Excellence”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming 2022 BET Awards.
News of the 52-year-old hip-hop mogul was reported by multiple sources on Monday, with many noting that the award had previously been presented to the likes of Whitney Houston and Samuel L. Jackson.
According to Vibe, the award is given to individuals believed to have a “substantially shaped culture.”

It noted that its previous recipients “were also transformative leaders who consistently inspire generations by setting a true standard of excellence.”
Scott Mills, CEO of BET, issued a statement discussing the reasons behind Combs being presented with the award.
He stated, “Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, reaching unprecedented heights, breaking new ground and raising the bar for all of us in the process.”
Mills added, “His virtuosity is matched only by his range – from music to media, culture, business and philanthropy – Diddy exemplified Black Excellence.”

He concluded, ‘We are delighted to have this opportunity to use our largest stage to honor the extraordinary achievements of our friend Diddy.’
Connie Orlando, BET’s Executive Vice President, Specials, Music Programming, Music Strategy, also issued a statement discussing Combs’ history as an artist and entrepreneur.
“It’s personally gratifying to celebrate and honor a longtime partner and friend of the network who, over the decades, laid the blueprint for black excellence through entertainment,” she said.

BET Awards executive producer Jesse Collins also expressed that “Puff’s contributions to culture extend beyond hip-hop.”
This year’s awards ceremony is currently scheduled to be moderated by Taraji P. Henson.
Doja Cat has received six nominations for various awards, with Ari Lennox and Drake nominating four each.
The BET Awards will be held on June 26th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
