After suffering a concussion on set on March 11, The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus says he will “be back at work on Tuesday, I was told.”
The actor, who plays Daryl Dixon on AMC’s zombie apocalypse series, took to social media on Friday to speak about his condition and thank fans for their concern. Check out Instagram below.
It remains unclear if the accident happened during the filming of Reedus or not. In addition to Reedus being out of action for a while, AMC delayed production for a few days for the upcoming day of TWD’s final shoot.
News of Reedus’ injury was first revealed in a social media post from Fandemic Tour that “Norman Reedus was forced to postpone due to an accident during filming.”
Reedus was scheduled to appear for part of one day at the Fandemic Dead Atlanta tour show, which ran from March 18 to 20. Reedus’ Boondock Saints co-star Sean Patrick Flannery, Fear the Walking Dead’s Jenna Elfman, TWD’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Melissa McBride, Seth Gilliam and Kaylee Fleming, and show veterans David Morrissey and Sarah Wayne Callies were among those who were going to attend a self-proclaimed “comic convention” at the Georgia World Congress Center this weekend.
Building on issues #175-193 of the comic book series created by Robert Kirkman and its Commonwealth storyline, Angela Kang’s zombie apocalypse series is currently about halfway through the second part of its three-episode extra-large 11th and final season.
Once TWD ends in late 2022 or early 2023, Reedus’ character Daryl Dixon and McBride’s Carol Peletier will switch to a spin-off. First announced in September 2020, details of a Reedus and McBride spin-off in the ever-expanding Deadverse followed by the actor, CAA rep, and Ride host signed a two-year deal with AMC as well as launching their own Bigbaldhead Productions tile.
During its run, The Walking Dead has experienced a number of on-set accidents, including the tragic death of stuntman John Bernecker in 2017. Reedus himself had previously been injured on set as well. While filming the 2015 season 5 episode “Them” in a barn, Reedus cut his hand. The wound was reportedly caught on camera but never made it into the final cut.
Fans of The Walking Dead will be able to see Reedus on screen tomorrow as a new episode of the 11th and final season of TWD, titled “Warriors”, airs.
