Burger King employee shoots customer for throwing mayonnaise: police

Police said a Florida Burger King employee was arrested Thursday for shooting a customer over an alleged mayonnaise incident.

The incident happened around 4:00 pm on Thursday when a customer pulled up to a Burger King eatery in northwest Miami-Dade. Local radio station WPLG said witnesses saw an employee, identified by police as 30-year-old Shatiasha Hicks, argue with a buyer.

The customer allegedly threw the mayonnaise back at Hicks before driving away.

Witnesses then tell WPLG that Hicks ran out of the restaurant to her car and then pulled out a gun and shot at the customer’s car as she drove away. Police said she fired a total of five shots.

The client has not yet been identified and its status is currently unknown.

The WPLG said investigators found Hicks later that day after she fled the scene and abandoned her car a mile from her home. Police also reportedly arrested Uncle Hicks for refusing to let his house be searched.

The Miami-Dade Police Department arrested Hicks on one count of using a firearm in public, and CBSMiami said she posted bail and was released from jail on Friday.

Newsweek reached out to the police for more comments, but did not receive a response in time for publication.

A spokesman for Burger King said in a statement to the WPLG: “We are horrified to learn of the events that have unfolded at this location. This unacceptable behavior is not in line with our brand safety values. Our franchise cooperates with local authorities. this remains an ongoing investigation, we are unable to share further details at this time.”

There have been several incidents at Burger King over the past few months. In February, one client was caught on camera getting out of her car on the road and yelling at an employee through the window. The incident was posted on TikTok and received over 290,000 views.

Unfortunately, several incidents in fast food restaurants ended in human casualties. In January, a teenage Burger King employee in East Harlem was shot and killed during an armed burglary.

That same month, another teenager was shot and killed during an attempted armed robbery at another Burger King restaurant in Milwaukee. Authorities believed the 16-year-old employee was involved in the staged robbery that ultimately ended her life.

In Wisconsin, two sisters face murder charges for allegedly shooting a restaurant waiter in the face in January after an argument over catering.

Newsweek reached out to Burger King for additional comment, but did not receive a response in time for publication.
