‘I’m crying talking about it’: Adrien Brody reveals he can’t bring himself to watch The Pianist as he details starvation and ‘life-changing’ sacrifices for the role.
Adrien Brody has revealed that he can’t bring himself to watch his Oscar-winning performance in The Pianist and is crying just talking about it.
The biographical war drama won him an Oscar for Best Actor and a Roman Polanski for Best Director and received widespread critical acclaim.
However, his lead role required a grueling job backstage, with Adrian explaining that he was on a “starvation diet” and subsequently suffered from body image issues.
‘I’m crying talking about it’: Adrien Brody revealed he can’t bring himself to watch ‘The Pianist’ as he detailed starvation and ‘life-changing’ sacrifices for the role.
Explaining the “life-changing” personal sacrifices he made to take on the role, he told The Times, “I can’t even watch the film. I cant. I kind of cry when I talk about it.”
Adrian played the lead role of composer Władysław Szpilman in a biopic about the life of a Holocaust survivor during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw.
Speaking of his casualties, he explained, “It was cumulative. I had a starvation diet, then I had to return it. My metabolism has changed. I thought I experimented and lost, that now my body will be different.”
Tough: Adrian has taken on the lead role of composer Władysław Szpilman in a biopic that chronicles the lives of Holocaust survivors during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw.
He went on to explain how he had to “recover” from a tough role that caused him to turn down the opportunity to “work with Werner Herzog” on the project that became “Rescue Dawn” as he “was sick.”
On his way to critical acclaim, he recalled the moment he was nominated for Best Actor along with Jack Nicholson, Nicolas Cage, Michael Caine and Daniel Day-Lewis.
Adrian said he never “demanded” the fame that came with his Oscar win as he began to “walk away” from the limelight.
He elaborated: “I have given up on the superficiality that comes with it. Or the ease of access to things that didn’t seem real and weren’t dear to my adult life. It wasn’t fair.”
Since his role in The Pianist in 2002, Adrian has starred in many Wes Anderson films and most recently in the hit HBO series Legacy.

The Oscar-winning actor made his debut as the new character of billionaire investor Josh Aaronson in November on the hit HBO series.
Notoriety: Since starring in The Pianist in 2002, Adrian has starred in many Wes Anderson films and most recently in the hit HBO series Legacy.
The actor explained that his understanding of business moguls is that they approach it “like a game of chess, they are well prepared.” And these layers represent readiness for the elements,” he said.
Adrian said the layered clothing became symbolic as his character went camping in an attempt to put pressure on business dealings.
“And we filmed the elements in Primorye, the character had an island. And I thought he was ready. He has hiking boots. They are wearing classic shoes. He wears them out. He is in power. Matt,” he added.
