Next week, the MCU’s newest superhero, Moon Knight, will finally debut his solo series on Disney+. The hype surrounding Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector (or the oddly accented Stephen Grant, depending on who you ask) is very real, and a new promo for the show offers new footage to keep fans hooked for the next ten days.
While the past few clips and trailers have focused more on whether Stephen can tell the difference between his waking life and his dreams, this promo is all about how cool the knight is as a character. While Stephen understandably freaks out when he learns he has dissociative identity disorder and has lived a completely different life (well, secondly, since there’s also detective personality Mr. Knight), Marc has no trouble explaining how he used to be Moon Knight is able to protect the innocent and “deliver justice” using his combat skills and Crescent Blades.
Admittedly, with earlier material becoming more blurred into horror and reality, it’s nice to see that Moon Knight is just a superhero. It’s fun to watch him roam the city at night in full costume or in action with his cape shaped like a crescent moon. Moon Knight has always been one of the Marvel pantheon’s weirder B-list street heroes – check out the recent Jed Mackay/Alessandro Cappuccio run, along with the Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey run of 2014. The show looks like like she hits that sweet spot of weird but cool pretty well, such as the sight of Marc performing a twisted Magical Girl transformation into his Full Moon Knight costume.
Stephen will eventually be convinced and enjoy being a superhero, but it won’t be all fun and games. Very briefly, the promo also offers a slightly better idea of the threats Moon Knight will face, like Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow and whatever plans he may be hatching. (The fact that he tells Stephen to “embrace the chaos” and slams a staff on the ground before the camera cuts to a purple flash in the distance doesn’t bode well.) There’s also a brief glimpse of Moon Knight , running away from a version of the Egyptian god Khonshu (his deity) in the air. In a clip from earlier in the week, Khonshu (voiced by F. Murray Abraham) was seen stalking Stephen around his apartment and it seems he’s done playing nice now, and Moon Knight for whatever purpose always wants to get his claws.
Moon Knight launches on Disney+ on March 30th.
