Portugal will accelerate the issuance of immigrant visas for foreign workers, nationals of Portuguesespeaking countries, students and digital nomads to address labor shortages and revitalize the country’s economy.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes, announced on Wednesday the creation of a new type of visa for job seekers, which will allow jobseeking foreigners to enter the Portuguese national territory within 180 days.

“This diploma provides for the removal of bureaucratic hurdles that have prevented visas from being issued quickly. New visas are being created, particularly visas for job seekers, quotas for job seekers will be abolished and therefore it will be easier to find job opportunities in Portugal. ” ”, said the minister.

“There is no tax incentive.”

Socalled digital nomads will be given the right to remain or reside, and despite Brexit, British citizens will have biometric access to everything that “every citizen has here,” the minister added.

Portugal faces labor shortages, particularly in the hospitality and tourism sectors, one of the economy’s main drivers, but the minister declined to say how many visa applications are expected.

The bill should pass easily as the ruling Socialist Party has a majority in Parliament.
