Randy Gregory Blames Jerry Jones for Cowboys Leaving Broncos

Randy Gregory blames Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for his strange departure.

Gregory agreed to terms early in free agency to re-sign with the Cowboys — and the team’s official Twitter account announced his return — but he quickly switched to the same five-year, $70 million deal with the Denver Broncos. Reports say both sides have had a dispute over the fine print details of the contract – purportedly standard for almost all Cowboys contracts, but not for other teams’ deals – and now Gregory is pointing the finger.

Replying on Twitter to a fan who told him “Your bills will be paid on the contract the Cowboys gave you,” Gregory tweeted on his verified account that Jones was at fault.

“No, your owners acted in bad faith,” Gregory wrote. “They’ve been awfully quiet lately, haven’t they? I wonder why lol can’t wait for you guys to ask them the same questions!”

It’s quite the reverse, given that Gregory’s agent, Peter Shaffer, initially confirmed Gregory’s re-signing, telling the Dallas Morning News, “No doubt what Jerry did for him.” [the] the last seven years played a huge role” in keeping his client in place. Apparently, this goodwill had its limits.

Gregory was selected in the second round of the Cowboys’ draft in 2015. He was suspended four times, including the entire 2019 season, for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy before breaking out with six sacks in 12 games last season.
