Patti Newton reveals her marriage to late husband Bert was far from perfect and admits the couple clashed in heated arguments: ‘We had world wars’
Patti Newton has admitted that she and her late husband, Bert Newton, had a real and robust marriage — and it included arguments and “wars.”
Speaking to this week’s Stellar Magazine, the 77-year-old said the pair are just a normal couple.
“I hate people who say, ‘We’ve never had a bad word’.” Well we did, we had world wars, Patti admitted.

Patti said she never felt like a bored housewife, even though she gave up her career in the 1970s to raise the couple’s children Matt, 45, and Lauren, 43.
“But what he did for me was he always included me in things. And he always made me feel like a part of what he was doing.
“So I never felt like I gave anything up,” she told the magazine.
“I hate people who say, ‘We’ve never had a bad word’.” Well we did, we had world wars, Patti admitted. “He was the love of my life and he was such a good man,” she added

Patti will present the first prize named in Bert’s honor at Sunday’s Logie Awards.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the showbiz legend will honor Bert by presenting the Bert Newton Award for Favorite Presenter at the star-studded ceremony taking place on June 19 on the Gold Coast.
Patti went on to say that although she gave up her career in the 1970s to raise the couple’s children, she never felt like a bored housewife. “He always involved me in things. And he always made me feel like a part of what he was doing. So I never felt like I gave anything up,” she said
The trophy was recently renamed to honor the late TV veteran, who died aged 81 last year following a health battle.
Patti – who was married to Bert for 47 years – buried her husband in November.
Bert had a leg amputated last year after a toe infection that led to further complications.
