Mr Boisclair, 56, has pleaded not guilty to separate cases involving two alleged victims whose identities are under a publicity ban.

In one case, Mr Boisclair is charged with sexual assault involving a third party and sexual assault with a weapon in connection with events alleged to have occurred in January 2014.

In the other file, André Boisclair is accused of sexual assault for events that allegedly took place in November 2015.

He waived his right to a preliminary hearing in both cases last September, opting to go directly to court.

Mr Boisclair was provincial cabinet minister and leader of the PQ between 2005 and 2007 when the party was in opposition.

He then served as Delegate General of Quebec in New York from 2012 to 2013 and President of the Urban Development Institute of Quebec from 2016 until his arrest.

Mr. Boisclair was first elected to the Montréal Riding of Gouin in 1989.
