  • The Texas Republican assured Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson that there would be no “shameful behavior” from GOP lawmakers in her hearing this week.
  • “This will not be a political circus. This will not be a slander, which, unfortunately, our fellow Democrats have succeeded in,” Cruz said.

  • Kavanaugh was accused of sexually abusing a peer as a teenager and was asked at his allegation hearing if he “liked beer”.
  • No one will be interested in your habits in adolescence. No one will ask you with feigned severity: “Do you like beer?” Cruz told Jackson.

GOP Senator Ted Cruz said Monday that only Democrats are vilifying would-be Supreme Court justices as he assured Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson that there would be no “shameful behavior” by Republicans in her hearing this week.

“This will not be a political circus. This will not be a slander, which, unfortunately, our fellow Democrats have succeeded in,” Cruz promised. “No one is going to be interested in your teenage dating habits. No one will ask you with feigned severity: “Do you like beer?”

Cruz pointed to the 1980s Judge Robert Bork confirmation battle that Bork lost, as well as the battles of Judges Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh, all Republican presidential candidates.

The Texas Republican pointed out that Bork’s allegation hearing “went so into a ditch” that the judge’s name became a verb: “fire someone.”

Cruz quoted Thomas as calling his confirmation hearing, which was briefly disrupted when attorney Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment, “high-tech lynching.”

“And I would point out that the chairman of that shame was Joe Biden,” Cruz said.

Cruz then pointed to the Kavanaugh hearing.

“One of the worst moments in the history of this committee, when the Democrats on this committee considered the allegations, did not pass them on to the FBI, did not request investigations, covered them up, and then leaked them against the wishes of the complainant. Cruz chuckled.

“And we started a circus that featured moments of Spartacus, features psychos like Michael Avenatti, whom CNN breathlessly described for months as a possible Democratic presidential candidate — that’s before he, seems to have become a felon in recent months,” Cruz continued.

“Judge Jackson, I can assure you that there will be nothing like shameful behavior at your hearing,” the Texas senator added, noting that she would not have been asked about her beer habits or teen dating.

This reference was to the charges brought against Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford.

Blacie Ford revealed that a teenage Kavanaugh raped her at a party in Maryland.

One of the most memorable moments of his confirmation hearing came when Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar asked Kavanaugh if he “likes beer” and if he has a drinking problem.

Cruz spoke about how he appeared with a liberal commentator on his podcast who said both sides are guilty of vilifying the Supreme Court’s decisions.

“Look, I understand that this is a good topic to talk about,” Cruz said. “It’s just not true.”

“This is just one side of the aisle, the Democratic aisle,” Cruz added.
