Vietnam and Malaysia to expand trade and bilateral cooperation

Hanoi, 03/21/2020 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam and Malaysia, through their prime ministers today, reaffirmed their aspirations to increase their trade to $18 billion by 2025 and intensify cooperation in various areas.

During official talks here, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Malaysian counterpart Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob agreed to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership agreement signed in 2015.

They also agreed to streamline the signing of a memorandum of cooperation on security defense issues and step up them in science and technology, education, culture, tourism and maritime affairs, among others.

After their talks, Minh Chinh and Yaakob witnessed the signing of two cooperation documents in the labor and legal sectors and another between VNA and Bernama, the respective national news agencies.

On his second and final day of his official visit to Vietnam, the Malaysian Prime Minister will also meet with Communist Party SecretaryGeneral Nguyen Phu Trong, the country’s President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Speaker of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Huh.

Malaysia is Vietnam’s second largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the ninth largest in the world.

Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur established diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973 and will coordinate a program of activities next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their relations, according to their respective governments.
