Dedé Santana, 86, reported in an interview with Veja magazine that he was rejected by some colleagues after he spoke out in favor of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Without naming names, Dedé Santana said some of his colleagues stopped speaking to him.
“A lot of people have stopped talking to me since I defended him, people I’d rather not name names. I met a guy named Capitão, he lived near his condo in Rio, and I used to call him that, Captain. Until that sting happened during the election and I realized “Captain” was a candidate for the presidency. I went there to show solidarity,” he said.
However, the comedian asserted he was unaware that Bolsonaro was in politics. “I didn’t even know he was a politician! I said, ‘I want you to be my President!’ And I don’t regret it.”
The former Trapalhões also commented on the difficulty of making humor in Brazil today due to “political correctness”.
“It’s complicated [fazer humor] Because of political correctness, you can’t say anything else, which becomes a problem. There was no malice in Os Trapalhões of the 1980s and 1990s. I would walk on the scene and say to Mussum, “Oh nigga!” He would answer: ‘Negão is your passadis!’. And everyone laughed. They called me a “happy boy” and I saw no evil. Today everything is complicated,” he said.
