GM begins production of Cadlllac Lyriq EV earlier than planned

It’s very common for electric car makers to delay their release, but GM claims it’s going against the trend. According to the company, production of Cadillac lyric at the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant began about nine months earlier than originally planned. GM hasn’t said how much of the luxury crossover sold-out reservations have been converted into actual purchases, but Lyriq’s orders will increase from May 19th. The EV will reach the dealer earlier this year.

The Lyric is Cadillac’s first EV and the first passenger car to use GM’s Ultium platform beyond the Hummer EV. It’s not as rugged as the Hummer with an estimated 340HP motor system, but it’s expected to deliver over 300 miles of range and 190kW fast charging on compatible stations. You can also expect a lot of technology, such as a 33-inch OLED screen and driving on the hands-free highway of Supercruise. More importantly, Lyriq starts at $ 59,990, which isn’t cheap, but much more affordable than the lowest price you pay for Hummer at $ 79,995.

Lyriq is not a complete representation of the next generation of mainstream GMEVs. To do this, you’ll have to wait for Chevy’s Electric Silverado ($ 39,900) and Equinox (about $ 30,000). But it acts as a bridge between Hummer and more affordable models, and it’s certainly easy to justify for those who don’t need Hummer’s off-road capabilities.
