March 21 -Pfizer said on Monday that the blood pressure drug Accuretic and two licensed cheaper versions of the drug due to elevated levels of nitrosamines, an impurity that can cause cancer. Said to be recalling.

Nitrosamines are commonly found in water and foods such as salted and roasted meats, dairy products, and vegetables. Prolonged exposure to unacceptable levels of impurities can increase the risk of cancer.
However, according to Pfizer, there is no immediate risk to patients taking the drug.
Patients currently taking the product should consult their doctor about alternative treatment options, the drug company said.
Earlier this month, Pfizer Canada recalled Accuretic due to the presence of the same impurities.
