Prosecutors had sought a 13year prison sentence for Putin’s number one enemy, who is currently being held. He was also fined for contempt of court

Russian President Vladimir “Putin is afraid of the truth,” commented the Russian opponent after the verdict was announced.

The police arrested his two lawyers shortly after the verdict was announced. The correspondent of the Novaya Gazeta newspaper reports that the two lawyers, Olga Mikhailova and Vadim Kobzev, were immediately taken away by the agents after answering the reporters’ questions. They were released shortly after being stopped by the police. “They released Olga Mikhailova and me said Kobzev, quoted by the Russian media and they were so kind that they even drove us back to where our car was parked.”

The hearing took place in a makeshift courtroom in the prison where the Russian opposition leader has been held for about a year. Navalny is already serving a twoandahalfyear sentence for probation violations related to allegations he says were made against his political ambitions.
