While reports leading up to Super Bowl LVI indicated that Aaron Donald could retire if the Rams won Super Bowl LVI, there was no official word from the defense anyway.

But Los Angeles appears to be gearing up for Donald’s return in 2022.

In a video conference call Tuesday, general manager Les Sneed said the Rams had contacted Donald’s agents about a possible contract extension.

“We’ve definitely spoken to Aaron, his spokesperson, and we’re trying to come up with a win-win solution to reward Aaron, while still definitely being able to continue trying to compete as a team at the highest level,” Sneed said. via Kevin Modesty of the Southern California newsgroup. “So we’re in progress.”

Snead added that Donald made it clear to the team that he would like to return.

“I know that Aaron told us that he would like to come back and he would definitely like to continue to do special things, not only as an individual player, but as a team,” Sneed said.

Donald signed a six-year, $135 million contract extension with $87 million guaranteed just before the start of the 2018 season. But Donald clearly outperformed that deal, especially after a strong 2021 postseason that saw Donald win his first Super Bowl.
